PublicationBlockchain statt Vertrauen? Bedeutung der Blockchain-Technologie für Vertrauen und Sich-verlassen-auf( 2024)Trustlessness and trust are considered essential categories that make Blockchain and digital technologies theoretically interesting beyond questions of the well-known Bitcoin application. However, it turns out to be difficult when we talk about the meaning of (non-)trust in Blockchain. Isn’t it often reliability rather than trustworthiness that matters to Bitcoin actors? Is trust in interpersonal relationships, which we experience concretely and often intuitively in everyday life, and which can be extended to institutions and professions, relevant to the rigid blockchain technology? And if so, how? Or will the necessity for trust – as the Bitcoin Whitepaper suggests at first glance – become redundant with Bitcoin? Should we speak of technology trust that is incompatible with the interpersonal trust paradigm, due to the immutability of what is stored in the blockchain, and thus would imply a profound shift in social realities? The attempt made here to actualize trust in contrast to reliance, both as philosophical concepts, in the blockchain context also means understanding technologies in their interconnectedness with socially interpreted realities (of trust).Type: journal articleJournal: Zeitschrift für Praktische PhilosophieVolume: 11Issue: 1

PublicationResource Making and Proto-Institutions in the German Tafel Field: Applying a Hermeneutical Context ModelThis paper studies resource making and the emergence of proto-institutions in Tafel Deutschland, an umbrella organization for more than 940 food banks or pantries in Germany, deploying a hermeneutical context model. Shedding light on value co-creation processes in the German Tafel field, we analyze how the activities and interpretations of or within Tafel organizations devoted to resource integration and resource making relate to their two missions and how their methods of dealing with conflict have led to the emergence of proto-institutions. The economic value co-created within in the Tafel field builds on the creation of social and ecological value. The context affects economic and social value co-created within the Tafel field differently: Whereas economic value rests on individual experience and perception, the social value resulting from the field actors’ activities is subject to dispute and defense.Type: journal articleJournal: Journal of Contextual Economics – Schmollers Jahrbuch (JCE)Volume: 140Issue: 1

;Shultz, Clifford ;Barrios, Andrés ;Krasnikov, Alexander V. ;Bennett, Aronté M. ;Emile, Renu ;Hokkinen, Maria ;Pennington, Julia R. ;Santos, MarcosSierra, JaimeThe global refugee crisis reveals refugees and other forcibly displaced persons (FDP) are uniquely vulnerable consumers on a dynamic pathway precipitated by trigger events that have disrupted or fractured marketing systems requisite for safety and well-being, resulting in dangerous journeys to temporary or permanent settlements. The Syrian Conflict is introduced to contextualize the challenges along the pathway and to show that a more Humanitarian Marketing System, spanning time, space and other systems, brings opportunities for governments, NGOs and businesses to cooperate and to provide FDP with resources, which enhance connectedness, reduce vulnerabilities and suffering, illuminate good practices and enable FDP to flourish when resettled.
