Abstract
We love the idea of the lone genius, sprinting ahead on sheer willpower. But the reality is different: learning and knowledge work in isolation blinds us to our own errors, cuts us off from tacit knowledge, and slows real progress. Working in isolation blinds us to our errors, cuts us off from tacit knowledge, and slows real progress. This piece unmasks the hidden costs of the “lone learner” myth and shows why learning together is not a distraction but a more effective—and often more joyful—path. In times of artificial intelligence, the temptation to replace human-to-human interaction with human-technology interaction grows stronger. Working only with AI may feel efficient—no disagreements, no delays. Yet this very smoothness hides a danger: less ideas, stronger confirmation bias, and fewer opportunities for creative friction.
