Abstract (De)
Three possible approaches to the question "Why be moral in the market?" are presented: business ethics as a debate, as a competence and as a practice. Its pointed out that the debate needs further elaboration of theory of rational choice in market relations, together with a sustained analysis of market characteristics in relation to governmental and non-governmental institutions, power and forces shaping society. For the practice it means paying continuing attention to corporate culture as the overflow area between economic man and the liberal individual, between the market and the essentially just society. And for the competence it means the avoidance of casuistry, causistry understood as the legitimation of excepions. Business ethics as a practice, as a debate, and as a competence is concerned with the core issues in business, not with the exceptions.
