Abstract
In this paper we analyze how discursive practices – in our case rhetorical arguments – protect a strategy implementation process at a company in turmoil. Our rhetorical analysis of CEO letters revealed not only an evolution in rhetorical arguments but also an adaptation of the rhetorical situation in relation to the context. In the words of convention theory, the arguments oscillate between generalization and abstraction as well as between illustration and situated interpretation. We show that this oscillation is central for the stabilization and protection of the discourse.
