For decades, researchers have been interested in investigating how organizations can successfully plan and execute its M&A ambitions. Thereby, multiple disciplines have focused on specific aspects and process phases of this phenomenon and contributed to a better understanding of the reasons for failure and success. However, although there is some empirical evidence that shareholders of the acquired organization gain from these deals, studies on the performance development for shareholder of the acquiring firm provide a more controversial picture. Therefore, this study focuses on the M&A management processes of the acquiring company and puts a special emphasis on its organizational learning capabilities. Thereby, in contrast to previous papers (e.g. Zollo & Singh, 2004) we do not only focus on one specific process phase but use an integrated perspective to explain the performance relationship between organizational learning and M&A performance. Furthermore, we introduce the role of a corporate M&A function and investigate its relationship with organizational learning and M&A performance.
