Abstract
Nowadays airport managers are facing several challenges: steady passenger traffic growth over the next 20 years and in parallel increasing security and environmental regulations. This also heavily affects the development of airports themselves in combination with an establishment of different requirements from carriers. Large international airlines concentrate their service on a few hubs with local feeder (Hub-and-Spoke). Low-cost carriers indeed operate from smaller and remote located airports predominantly (Point-to-Point). Because of law and environmental conditions, many international hub-airports operate at capacity limits. However smaller airports complain about decreasing utilisation and their dependency on no-frills airlines.
Both problems can be addressed and solved stepwise by introducing so-called Decision Support Systems measuring the performance as well as quantifying the airports facility management efficiency.
