Our daily life makes it obvious to anyone: We live in media society. During the first half of the last century, the media environment was clearly dominated by the print media, then by the radio and the television broadcast media, and today more and more by the internet. The new information and communication technology keeps the media revolution going and constantly changes our perception of the world. Of special interest are the changes in the media environment and the effects on specific geographic regions: The Internet is fruitful for both, for global as well as for local interests. The author takes a close look at the situation of the city and region of St. Gallen (Switzerland) and analyses its specific situation.
