The present article proposes a comparative perspective in which the British enclaves of the ṭarīqa Qādiriyya al-Būdshīshiyya will be analysed vis-a-vis the rest of European groups. The paper suggests that in order to understand the British groups of the Būdshīshiyya, we need to scrutinise them in a comparative manner, by incorporating an understanding of how they relate to other European groups. The article argues that some of the religious features of the British Būdshīshiyya make more sense if looked at in relation to the religious features of other Būdshīshiyya groups. It proposes a comparative perspective among the British and other European enclaves of the Order, discussing whether or not transnational Sufi Orders hold a transnational religious character, or develop distinct religious identities in the new lands in which they set down roots. The paper discusses the similarities and differences of British and non-British European groups of the Order and tries to evaluate the relevance these features have to the overall religious identity of ṭarīqa.
