Abstract
Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), exemplified by models like ChatGPT and Gemini (formerly known as Bard), has emerged as a transformative force, impacting various fields. This paper investigates the integration of GenAI into Human Resource Development (HRD). While GenAI applications in recruitment and performance management have generated attention, the role of GenAI in HRD still needs to be explored. Furthermore, the absence of comprehensive research on AI in HRD raises concerns about the preparedness of HRD professionals to navigate the complexities of an AI-driven landscape. This paper addresses the gap by providing insights into how HRD professionals foster their development in the era of generative artificial intelligence. The study employs an explorative approach, using semi-structured interviews analysed through Gioia's qualitative research methodology. The findings reveal challenges and opportunities HRD professionals encountered by HRD professionals when integrating GenAI into their practices. The paper concludes by discussing implications, suggesting avenues for further exploration, and providing recommendations for HRD practitioners.
