Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore how executive development programs and organizational practices mutually influence each other. Our empirical study presents the case of an international media company with different divisions and businesses acting with a strong entrepreneurial self-understanding in different industrial contexts, minimizing the influence from the corporate centre due to the strong decentralized organization. Thus the executive development program from the corporate centre plays a potentially important role not only for individual but also organizational learning. Understanding the executive management program as a strategic episode and focusing on the relational processes between the participants of the program and their organization before, during and after the program we explore conditions and mechanisms that enable and limit organizational learning.
