Communication Blended Courses: Experiences in Swiss Colleges

Abstract
Digital technologies have the potential to disrupt and radically change the way we teach communication at university level: which methods and technologies are efficient and effective? This seems an urgent topic to consider because students from all over the world can attend courses in prestigious universities worldwide. The aim of this contribution is to share the experience of teaching three blended communication courses in Swiss universities, and several virtual classes in otherwise traditional communication courses. With a grounded approach, students’ and lecturer’s experiences were analyzed and clustered into positive and improvable methods, specific for bachelor, master and executive students. The insights derived from the analyzed cases are discussed and indicate venues for future research. Creating virtual classes and blended courses for the field of communication seems a time consuming but worthwhile effort since the students report greater satisfaction and deeper learning.
