Abstract
Johann Wolfgang Goethe spent more than sixty years working on different parts of his Wilhelm Meister novels and they can be seen as the core of his narrative work. Based on Gérard Genette's narratological approach, Carina Gröner shows that textiles not only play an essential role in these texts in terms of conten, but that the poetological structure of these novels is structured like a textile fabric and can be described using common textile metaphors like “weave” and “work” whereby “work” has both a textile-technical and a reception-aesthetic meaning.

Die Wilhelm Meister-Romane (Theatralische Sendung, Lehrjahre, Wanderjahre) begleiteten Johann Wolfgang von Goethe mehr als sechzig Jahre lang und bilden den Kern seines narrativen Werks. Ausgehend von Gérard Genettes narratologischem Ansatz zeigt Carina Gröner, dass in diesen Texten Textilien nicht nur inhaltlich eine wesentliche Rolle spielen, sondern dass darüber hinaus die poetologische Struktur – analog zur gemeinsamen etymologischen Herkunft der Begriffe „Text“ und „Textil“ – wie eine textile Gewebestruktur aufgebaut ist und sich mittels der Textilmetaphern „weben“ und „wirken“ beschreiben lässt, wobei „wirken“ sowohl eine textiltechnische als auch eine rezeptionsästhetische Bedeutung enthält.
