Abstract (De)
The field of executive education is "at a crossroads" and in a situation of radical change. This is caused by the challenge to receive sustainable learning results in an learning outcome-orientation and competence development, which leads to clear impact for the customer's company: changed demand and needs of customers, societal and technological developments as well as increased competition in the market require learning opportunities, which go far beyond traditional classroom input-delivery. Therefore, executive education programs have to be reconsidered in regards to their didactical value chain, including design, development, delivery and learning facilitation. Finally, entire learning processes have to be facilitated instead of single learning events. This emphasizes a focus on new objectives for executive education programs. Nevertheless, especially business schools are struggling with facing these requirements as these claim for extensive rethinking of e.g. the business model, structures and collaboration forms. Mostly, they are concentrating on optimizing programs instead of renewal and implementing educational innovations in general.
From an educational management perspective and with a focus on professional programme management, this research projects aims to investigate how innovation barriers can be overcome and a general development-orientation with a balance between optimization and renewal can be established. Hence, this means not only to identify innovation barriers like other studies did (e.g. Ebner, 2005). Based on the challenging current situation of change, the development of a generalized theoretical model is the key objective and also the identification of guiding principles for practice.
To answer the research question, four case studies are planned to investigate in-depth how a successful implementation of educational innovations in executive education programs was possible.
