Abstract
This contribution applies and tests an extended version of a measure of opportunity recognition recently proposed by Gregoire, Shepherd, and Schurer Lambert (2010) in a large-scale survey among intentional and nascent entrepreneurs. Statistical analyses confirm the reliability and partly the unidimensionality of the opportunity recognition measure. This paper also investigates determinants of the extent of opportunity recognition. As expected, entrepreneurial education has a positive effect on opportunity recognition only for people with professional experience. Progress in the entrepreneurial process is positively related to opportunity recognition. The analysis is based on data from the 2011 Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Students' Survey (GUESSS) in Germany
