Abstract
"Parcitypate: Art and Urban Space" presents a unique collection of articles on current urban artistic interventions and their effects on urban development and the production of urban space. Bringing together internationally renowned urban researchers and social theorists with artists, art theorists and curators, the book makes an important and timely contribution to the discourse on the contemporary development of urban space as well as to the role and effects of recent urban-artistic projects. The book's contents are grounded in concrete examples of artistic interventions and their entanglements with the urban everyday. For this, current socio-spatial and aesthetic thinking will ‘meet' contemporary (site-specific or relational, often temporary and ephemeral) artistic practices and curatorial positions in different constellations. Echoing the urban complexity and its multiplicity of narratives, "Parcitypate: Art and Urban Space" entails innovative social-theoretical essays, curatorial and artistic positions as well as collaborative texts where academics and artists jointly explore the possibilities and limits of urban artistic endeavours.
