Abstract
In the past, great efforts have been made in the field of business information systems acceptance and usage to better understand, which parameters influence the acceptance and use. However, often those studies remain on the individual level of analysis. In the paper at hand, we extent existing research to the organizational level and allow for an analysis over time employing data from an agent-based simulation model. We find that the environmental complexity negatively affects acceptance and usage of business information systems, which eventually leads to a decreased organizational performance. This has implications for the management of business information systems in changing environments.
