PublicationNetworked business design in the context of innovative technoligies: Digital transformation in financial business ecosystems( 2023-12-04)Business today is not conducted by single organizations alone but in networked designs with diverse actors. A construct where actors engage in joint value creation is called a business ecosystem. Speci cally, within the context of core services originating from the nancial services industry, such constructs are called nancial business ecosystems. Innovative technologies and intelligent methods enable value creation in these organizational setups. To effectively participate in these ecosystems and exploit the potential of innovative technologies and intelligent methods, organizations need to develop a novel operating model. We propose a blueprint for such an operating model building on two levels of capabilities: rst level capabilities that enable the exploitation of data and the number of partner relations as underlying resources of business ecosystems. The proposed second level capabilities enable the organization to engage in business ecosystems. By suggesting these capabilities, we aim to guide organizations on a targeted transformation journey and enable them to leverage innovative technology for actively engaging in nancial business ecosystemsType: journal articleJournal: Capco Journal of Financial TransformationIssue: 58

PublicationAdvocating for Harnessing the Power of Ecosystems in Healthcare: The Case of an Ecosystem in the Realm of Parkinson's Disease -A Position Paper( 2024)
;Lucarelli, PhilippeIn the contemporary healthcare landscape, organizations largely operate on their own, potentially limiting comprehensive care for complex diseases. This position paper underscores the potential of utilizing the power of an ecosystem as a structure for value creation within the realm of Parkinson`s disease. We analyze the potential values that arise from utilizing an ecosystem for three entities, the organizations, the healthcare system and the patients. In so doing, we propose a first set of benefits, i.e., values, that arise subdivided into financial and non-financial values.Type: conference paper -
PublicationWhere blockchain could help - An analysis of challenges in ecosystems blockchain technology may help to solve( 2023-08-10)
;Schaefer, Benjamin ;Wrobel, LasseEcosystems are constructs of joint value creation of different organizations that differ from classical value creation settings by their structure and might bring specific challenges. Blockchain technology offers particular traits that might bring the potential to help overcome some of the challenges. Using a systematic literature review, we identify 24 specific challenges in ecosystems and provide mapping on where blockchain technology can help to solve them.Type: conference paperJournal: AMCIS 2023 Proceedings -
PublicationOrganizational Capabilities in Emerging Blockchain-Enabled Platform Ecosystems: Insights of a Single Case Study( 2023-08-10)
;Simon PerreletEcosystems are emerging in almost all sectors. In the banking sector, they enable the disruption of traditional value chains and the emergence of entirely new types of value creation settings. Actors who engage in such constructs need specific organizational capabilities. This is especially true when particular technologies, in the presented case blockchain technology, are used to enable collaborative value creation between actors. We extend organizational capabilities as previously described in the context of platform ecosystems. For this purpose, we conducted a longitudinal case study of the Swiss blockchain-enabled platform ecosystem in the financial services sector. We analyzed the data using the theoretical perspective of organizational capabilities. Initial results confirm the organizational capabilities but indicate a different distribution reflecting the development stages of the ecosystem. Furthermore, the first new organizational capabilities could already be identified.Type: conference paperJournal: AMCIS 2023 Proceedings
