Description
The current economic situation as well as constantly changing market environments and increasing disruptions are putting supply chains world-wide to the test. Factors such as geopolitical tensions, increasing economic pressure & vulnerability, rising environmental and social awareness and confrontation with ethical factors lead to the need for supply chains to continuously change. In order to keep supply chains competitive in the future, the concept of supply chain viability is becoming increasingly im-portant. Supply chains need to be resilient and sustainable and at the same time use the potential of digitalization in order to be able to survive in the long term.
Due to this change, the Institute for Supply Chain Management at the University of St.Gallen (ISCM) conducted this study in cooperation with the Oracle Corporation. The investigation of the future evolution towards viable supply chains as well as the shift of relevance of various factors led to the derivation of a comprehensive target vision of supply chain viabil-ity and its enablers. The analysis of the role of digital technologies as drivers of future supply chains and key enablers of viable supply chains, as well as the identification of requirements and barriers, enables the der-ivation of supply chain approaches and recommendations for action to achieve supply chain viability.
