Description
The research project aims at (1) identifying and developing a comprehensive construct of collaborative capability, and (2) testing its value as a source of competitive advantage in software vendor - service provider relationships. For the time being, initial results suggest that collaborative capability is a multidimensional construct encompassing structural, cognitive, and affective components. These are realized through specific managerial actions, processes, and behaviours carried out within and across company boundaries. collaborative capability allows the firm to exert unilateral influence on relationship development and dynamics. As a result, value creation in the relationship is greater, and in turn, the benefits that the individual firm can appropriate. Furthermore, we find evidence that the source of competitive advantage does not derive directly from the capability but from the functional ends achieved by the capability, namely a higher level of collaboration between the partnering firms and a higher level of relationship quality.
