Description

Item type:Publication, Procurement Managers Must Adopt Supply Chain Finance as a Standard Practice [Interview](2021-04-11)Hofmann, ErikSupply chain finance (SCF) is an important lever for managing a company’s working capital requirements. It also ensures the suppliers are paid on or before time. An effective working capital management system aims to increase the accounts payable period (DPO) while reducing the accounts receivable period (DSO) and inventory retention time (DIH). A key metric in working capital management is the “cash conversion cycle”. Procurement teams are essential in managing the payment terms and inbound inventories with suppliers. A very common SCF instrument is reverse factoring, a method by which companies pay their suppliers without using their own working capital. Financial institutions -- ranging from traditional banks to fintechs -- enable this trade funding activity by acting as the intermediary between Procurement Organizations and Suppliers. The demand for SCF spiked due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic as companies across the globe sought to improve liquidity -- while industry experts have raised concerns over aggressive funding practices. Naturally, the question arose as to whether the procurement function should generally be concerned about the recent collapse of a high-profile SCF intermediary, Greensill Capital. Beroe posed this question to Erik Hofmann, Professor and Director, Institute of Supply Chain Management, University of St.Gallen, Switzerland. Erik is a supply chain specialist and has written several books on Operations Management and SCF.Type:digital resourceJournal:Beroe - Advantage Procurement - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Working Capital Management Study 2021 – In search of the new normal(2021-10-27) ;Hofmann, Erik“What is normal in times like these?” This question hasn’t just concerned the general public during the COVID-19 crisis. Coronavirus-related effects have also been a big issue for finance and supply chain managers in managing their working capital. The range of challenges facing Swiss companies – both now and in the future – in relation to working capital management (WCM) are quite manifold. While some companies faced liquidity bottlenecks that jeopardized their future, others met unprecedented demand by using partially modified business models, where funding also poses challenges for managers. This requires the management of working capital to be versatile and adaptable. The eighth edition of the WCM Study focuses on this need for realignment. It provides answers to the following questions: How has the management of payables and receivables changed during the COVID-19 crisis in retrospect? What is the current liquidity situation in Swiss companies? And what future trends and developments are expected in WCM? The tendencies identified regarding the future structure of WCM provide an indication of the new normal and serve as a source of inspiration for finance and supply chain managers.Type:bookVolume:8th edition - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Financing the end-to-end-supply chain: A reference guide to supply chain finance(Kogan Page, 2020-08-13) ;Templar, Simon ;Hofmann, ErikFindlay, CharlesFinancing the End-to-End Supply Chain provides readers with a comprehensive understanding of the financial synergies across the supply chain. It demonstrates the importance of the strategic relationship between the physical supply of goods and services and the associated financial flows. The book provides a clear introduction, demonstrating the importance of the strategic relationship between supply chain and financial communities within an organization. This book links together treasury, banking, supply chain, systems, IT, and key stakeholders. Financing the End-to-End Supply Chain will help senior supply chain practitioners to build collaboration, improve relationships and enhance trust between supply chain partners. With its combination of theory and practice it tackles vital issues including physical, information and financial flows, and tailoring supply chain finance to individual organisations' circumstances. Recognizing that supply chain finance means different things in different countries, the authors also consider various initiatives to harmonize and develop cross-border financing as well as including an agenda for national and international policy makers. The new edition features interviews from SCF platform providers on how ecosystems are involved in supply chain finance, additional learning activities for students and new examples on working capital management.Type:bookVolume:2nd edition - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Supply Chain Financing and Pandemic: Managing Cash Flows to Keep Firms and Their Value Networks Healthy(Rutgers Business School, 2021-04-09) ;Hofmann, Erik ;Templar, Simon ;Rogers, Dale S. ;Choi, Thomas Y.Leuschner, RudiThe COVID-19 crisis has interrupted firms and their value networks. The lockdown measures taken by governments around the globe have triggered a massive supply and demand shock. The ensuing crisis has created economic chaos that resulted in massive business disruptions for companies, their customers, their suppliers and their affiliated service providers (banks and logistics providers). Firms are turning to supply chain financing solutions to stabilize liquidity and their net working capital to maintain solvency and ensure continuity of supply through their supply chains. This paper discloses several different types of supply chain financing solutions and how these can impact firms and their value creation partners struggling through the uncertain business environment caused by a global pandemic.Type:journal articleJournal:Rutgers Business ReviewVolume:6Issue:1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
