Description
ICT can be an effective way for the prevention of postnatal depression either through assessment and early detection of depressive symptoms or through psychological intervention for women at risk for perinatal depression. It becomes necessary further controlled studies with long term monitoring to demonstrate the efficacy, effectiveness and efficiency of e-health in the field of prevention of perinatal depression.
With the help of the SNF a first international exploratory workshop for the emerging research theme "e-mental health" was conducted. The aim of this workshop was to explore - in an interdisciplinary setting - the technological, economic and health-related possibilities of an e-health service for preventing prenatal and postnatal depression in women. With the Internet and mobile computing new forms of interaction with and dissemination of such diagnostic and therapeutic public health services are possible, which may significantly differ from "traditional" approaches.
