Eine qualitative Bewertung der Stärken und Schwächen deutschsprachiger Erklärvideos im Pflegebereich

2024-06 , Marcel Scherrer , Stefan T. Siegel , Josef Buchner , Michael Kerres

For nursing education and training, numerous explanatory videos are available on the widely used video streaming platform YouTube. However, the videos are published largely uncontrolled, and they are characterized by a great heterogeneity. Teachers and learners are often faced with the question of which video is most suitable from the extensive list of results in a search. The focus of this study is the qualitative design of explainer videos, since even subject-specific content must be presented appropriately in order to increase the likelihood of learning progress. For the qualitative evaluation of three explanatory videos each on the nursing topics of infusion preparation and 30-degree positioning, a cross-disciplinary analysis grid is used that considers pedagogical-didactic, (instructional) psychological, and film-analytical features. The results of the empirical investigation show a mixed quality of explanatory videos for nursing. The evaluated explanatory videos each consider the quality criteria to varying extents and hardly fulfill (media) pedagogical-didactic quality criteria. The authors discuss why the explanatory videos are suitable for different target groups and how (instructional) psychological and film design criteria intertwine.

What Makes Excellent Explainer Videos: Learning about and Applying a Multidisciplinary Quality Criteria Tool

2024-02 , Stefan T. Siegel , Marcel Scherrer , Josef Buchner

Within the contribution we will present, explore, and discuss a multidisciplinary, theory- and research-based tool on quality criteria for explainer videos. It covers a broad range of educational design, educational-psychological, film-analytical, and legal quality criteria and can be used for selecting, producing, analyzing, and evaluating these educational media. The tool and the workshop are primarily aimed at university instructors, educational designers, teacher trainers, teachers and educational staff at schools, higher education institutions, and companies.

Qualitätskriterien für Lehr- und Erklärvideos im Überblick—Version 2

2023-08 , Stefan T. Siegel , Ines Hensch , Marcel Scherrer , Josef Buchner

What makes really good explainer videos? A multidisciplinary, theory- and research-based grid on quality criteria for explainer videos Version 2.0 This grid presents quality criteria for explainer videos and shows how they can be used. The original version of the grid was developed in 2020 by Ines Hensch and myself and has now been updated in 2023 together with Marcel Scherrer and Dr. Josef Buchner. Our grid covers a broad spectrum of (media) pedagogical-didactic, (learning) psychological, film-analytical and legal quality criteria. It is theoretically and empirically well grounded by the international state of research on the quality of educational and explanatory videos. It provides an overview a comprehensive overview of quality criteria for teaching/learning videos that you can use for the selection, production, analysis and evaluation of teaching and explainer videos, but also for teaching about quality criteria for teaching and explainer videos or corresponding further training. The grid is primarily aimed at: University instructors, learning experience designers; teachers and pedagogical staff at schools, universities and in companies. The grid is licensed as OER and may be stored, used, processed, mixed and distributed. Click here for the grid: https://miro.com/app/board/uXjVMuMk86E=/ Suggested citation (APA): Siegel, S.
