Abstract
We propose a novel interdisciplinary framework to systematically analyze how media portrays technological threats, focusing on artificial intelligence. Integrating insights from multiple disciplines, our framework identifies seven key dimensions: economic disruption, privacy/security, social/psychological effects, autonomy/agency, existential risks, environmental/health impacts, and equity/justice. Using large language models, we analyze newspaper articles to uncover temporal trends, interdependencies among threat dimensions, and variations in coverage. Our findings illuminate how media framing shapes consumer perception and technology adoption, offering insights for marketers, policymakers, and developers. This work establishes a scalable methodology for examining technological discourse.
