Abstract
This article offers insights into second-language academic
writing based on the practical experiences gained at the
Academic Writing Centre of the University of St. Gallen. The
number of consultations, as well as the questions and issues
raised, show that students writing in English as a second
language seek advice more often than those writing in their
first language. Interestingly, these questions
concern not only language but also what
producing written academic English means in
terms of the writing process.
