Abstract
Research about corruption, as well as anti-corruption efforts and reforms, has become more effective through the use of interdisciplinary approaches. The article presents some developments from the field of sociolinguistics, the theory of lacunae, and Ludwig Wittgenstein’s theory of language games, as well as a number of other ideas from the field of linguistics. This study reveals the potential, and emphasizes the importance, of these developments for, to give an example, the adequate formulation of questions and the interpretation of the data obtained. It is often the insider knowledge of a language that helps reveal cultural codes invisible to an outside observer, codes which are important for identifying an act from the point of view of its corruption component. The article is based on empirical materials collected by the author in Russian and Ukrainian.
