Abstract
En «El bárbaro, un antitipo por excelencia. Los ecos del (in)humano en la Atenas Clásica», Leire Urricelqui analiza la categoría del antitipo como aquella que trae consigo el peligro de la deshumanización y la posibilidad de categorizar al Otro como figura hostil, hasta el extremo de convertirlo en el erradicable. Para ello, la autora presenta un análisis de los parámetros de lo Humano que articulan esta categoría, partiendo de la definición que Aristóteles presenta en la Política del anthropos en tanto que animal lógico y político. Con este punto de partida, Urricelqui analiza los problemas que presenta la definición aristotélica para centrarse en la figura que corresponderá al antitipo dentro de este marco: el bárbaro. Urricelqui investiga el carácter etnocéntrico y los rasgos necesarios que presenta el bárbaro para conducir hacia el proceso de la deshumanización, además del papel fundamental que ha desempeñado esta figura para la construcción mitológica de la identidad europea.
In “The Barbarian, an Antitype Par Excellence: Echoes of the (In)human in Classical Athens”, Leire Urricelqui analyzes the category of the antitype as one that carries with it the danger of dehumanization and the possibility of categorizing the Other as a hostile figure, to the extreme of rendering them eradicable. To this end, the author offers an analysis of the parameters of the Human that structure this category, beginning with Aristotle’s definition in the Politics of the anthropos as a logical and political animal. From this starting point, Urricelqui examines the problems inherent in Aristotle’s definition in order to focus on the figure that corresponds to the antitype within this framework: the barbarian. She explores the ethnocentric nature and the necessary traits of the barbarian that lead toward the process of dehumanization, as well as the fundamental role this figure has played in the mythological construction of European identity.
