In this paper we suggest to move forward from the firm-centered perspective of stakeholder management toward societal perspectives that highlights network-kind relations between different (types of) organizations. Here, insights from neo-institutional approaches in Sociology help to develop a theoretical perspective that stresses the relevance of institutional mechanisms and institutional entrepreneurs within organizational fields. This cultural and institutional perspective enables 1. to determine strategic actions for businesses as institutional entrepreneurs, 2. to stress normative claims on businesses and other organizations, and 3. to consider private global regimes in the analysis of issues related to business ethics.
