Abstract
Eco-efficiency of products and processes is increasingly demanded by customers as additional quality criteria. Companies react to this trend by diverse eco-efficiency initiatives. However, in most cases a structured approach that is aligned with strategic eco-efficiency targets is missing. Moreover, seamless eco-efficiency measurement across the whole company is not performed and the potential of eco-efficiency initiatives is not fully exploited due to a lack of eco-efficiency transparency along the value chain. The extended stage-gate model seeks to remedy these shorcomings and gives an overall idea how to integrate eco-efficiency controlling and improvement along a manufacturing company's value chain.
