Abstract
Dear Reader -

The papers in this issue (Vol. 9, No. 4) cluster around four themes: international enterprise resource planning systems, finance and electronic markets, the Furthermore section, and a series of book reviews. The first section is an in-depth examination of the issues involved in developing and deploying international MIS systems. This focus theme addresses wide-ranging issues, from air and rail transport to tourism distribution; from developmental issues to strategic issues, all in the context of international MIS and ERP. Many thanks go to the Guest Editor, Christopher Holland of the Manchester Business School and all of his hard work in bringing this section together.

Next we present two papers on electronic markets and finance. Louis Minakakis and Bahrat Rao form a busines/academic partnership to abstract lessons from competition in the financial services industry. Louis Minakakis is with Chase Manhattan Bank and Bahrat Rao is with Polytechnik University in New York. Troy Strader and his colleagues from Iowa State University examine on-line initial public offerings and their ramifications.

The Furthermore Section includes an article on Web-based consumer decision tools by Kieran Mathieson and his co-authors at Oakland University. We also present an article from Thomas Hess from University of Göttingen with a case study on Bertelsmann's Professional Information Services.

This issue of EM is rounded out, with the first of a two-part series of book reviews. All of these books are recent additions to the growing literature on electronic commerce. Many thanks go to the University of Minnesota reviewers, in particular Robert J. Kauffman and Qihzi Dai for making this section possible.

This fourth issue draws to a close volume 9, our first complete volume with our new publisher, Routledge. It has been an exciting year forming this new partnership. In addition to this issue, during this past year, EM has presented papers from the AIS conference, local versus global trends in electronic commerce, EC in the Americas, and electronic commerce and logistics. Our plans for the new year include Selected Papers from the Bled Conference, electronic commerce in Africa, and reference models. Our list of Guest Editors includes: Stefan Klein and Joze Grièar for the Bled issue, Magda Ismail, Derrick Cogburn, and Andy Bytheway for the EC and Africa issue.

Next year is the ten year anniversary of EM - Electronic Markets and we look forward to continuing to deliver strong, peer reviewed content to you and continuing to develop our relationships with the community.

Beat F.
