Abstract
C. G. Jung's "transcendental function" and the radical imaginary of the Greek philosopher and psychoanalyst Cornelius Castoriadis are read together in this structural cultural analysis of the imaginative psyche with regard to the question of how the "active imagination" can be translated into a model for social renewal that goes beyond the narrowly defined technical-apparative concept of innovation (first part). The central issue here is to make a hardened assertion of reality more fluid again, to make the utopian assertion of 'reality' recognizable. In the second part of the article, the analysis of the utopia of reality is followed by a selective examination of the reality of utopia by tracing the profit motive back to the beginnings of the modern conquista.
