The topics in apocalypse movies - natural disasters, epicemics and nuclear self- destruction - remain the same during long times. This disproves the thesis that they are representations of latent present fears.The author of the essay claims that apocalypse movies are fictive constructs which visualize things that are not think- able. They transcend what the philosopher Günther Anders called «blindness of apocalypses».
Die Themen in Apokalypse-Filmen – naturkatastrophen, seuchen, nukleare selbstzerstörung – bleiben in einem Masse konstant, dass Zweifel an der These angebracht sind, ob sie wirklich latente Ängste repräsentieren und zum Ausdruck bringen. Der Autor vertritt die These, dass Apokalypse-Filme imaginäre konstrukte sind und somit ein ereignis visualisieren und vermitteln, das unseren Denkhorizont transzendiert. sie überwinden gewissermassen das, was der philosoph Günther Anders als «Apokalypsenblindheit» bezeichnete.
