Abstract
The Americas, by which we mean the lands stretching from the Canadian north to the Strats of Magellan, is a hotbed of electronic commerce. This section brings to you a series of articles examining recent developments in this geographic area. It represents the culmination of a journey stated in Issue 2 of 1997, when EM examined electronic commerce in Asia. We then stopped off in Europe in with Issue 2 of 1998. A review of this world-wide trip leaves the indelible impression that electronic commerce is truly global in both span and reach. While geography may no longer be relevant in the virtual world, we find location to be a convenient and familiar way to organise and catalogue developments in our rapidly changing area. In the second issue of the year 2000, we expect to revisit Asia to see what has changed.
