Abstract
In Business Informatics, research objectives can be classified in the two groups cognition objectives and design objectives. The former postulate the whish to understand given and observed facts, the latter constitute the aim to design new facts. Model type construction can be seen as an approach for achieving scientific cognition, since model types are helpful in the research process as well as a result type in research processes. Efficiency in the research design is reached, when certain requirements are observed. These requirements include the necessity to explicate the epistemological point of view, the research objective and the explanatory statement for the chosen research method.
