Abstract
The continuous development of innovations in the field of digital technologies leads to a far-reaching transformation of the economy and society towards a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous environment. In this context, the agile development of information systems (IS) has gained relevance as a competitive factor. Agile IS development is often operationalized in the form of agile methods, which can help to build agile capabilities by providing certain structures, principles and techniques. Against this backdrop, agile development of information systems (IS) has gained relevance as a competitive factor. Agile IS development is often operationalized in the form of agile methods, which can help to build agile capabilities by providing specific structures, principles and techniques. Currently, there is a plethora of different agile methods that address different organizational improvement goals and show different degrees of complexity in their implementation and use. In general, an improper application of agile methods is accompanied by high costs for an organization. Organizations face the challenge of finding suitable agile methods for specific improvement goals, which at the same time do not overstrain the existing organizational structures. This thesis provides an overview of agile techniques and situational agile technique compositions to reduce the uncertainty in the selection of agile methods and techniques and to support the decision process for the implementation of certain agile techniques in organizations. In a Design Science Research-based research approach, artefacts have been developed and evaluated to support organizations in the situational design of agile methods for IS development. The artefact development and evaluation was conducted in the form of focus group and expert interviews within the CC Ecosystems. During the course of the research, 68 agile techniques were identified, which were classified into a taxonomy and described in detail. In addition, nine situation patterns for agile IS development were identified, on the basis of which agile technique compositions for the design of situational agile IS development methods were created.
