Item type:Publication, Designing Digital Health Innovation for Stigma-Affected Health Conditions: A Systems-Based View to Managing Chronic Pelvic PainStigma is a recognized global barrier to effective disease management, affecting social interactions, resource access, and psychological well-being. In this study, we developed a patient-centered framework, grounded in sociotechnical systems (STS) theory, to derive design requirements and interventions for health conditions affected by social stigma. We tested the framework in a mixedmethod study with patients experiencing chronic pelvic pain, identifying ten design requirements that include behavioral, psychological, and daily support strategies. The findings reveal a prefer-ence for priming and social support interventions among these patients. Our study underscores the importance of a systems-based perspective in healthcare and advocates a nuanced, patientcentered approach to address the complexities of stigma. Item type:Publication, The challenges and opportunities of hybrid education with location asynchrony: Implications for education policyThe COVID-19 pandemic has severely disrupted traditional on-site education. One currently deployed alternative is hybrid education formats, which combine online and on-site elements. Educators, educational institutions, and policymakers need to understand the challenges and opportunities hybrid education can pose to both students and educators to orchestrate these formats successfully. This is especially true when hybrid education allows asynchrony of the learning location, for example, allowing students to choose whether to attend online or on-site. To understand these challenges and opportunities, we deployed a qualitative research design and identified three challenges and three opportunities of hybrid education, allowing location asynchrony, based on two data sources, interviews with educators and open-ended survey answers from students. First, we describe these findings and highlight three larger underlying themes (balancing flexibility with complexity, the challenge of interpersonal connectedness in highly diverse settings, and digital proficiency), including sometimes opposing perspectives of students and educators. As a result, organizations are confronted with new logics that their business processes adhere to: processes are designed to allow for easy adaptability, infrastructure becomes progressively more flexible, and process participants make their own decisions in ambiguous situations. In this context, business process change becomes increasingly important. Digital ventures-key phenomena in the digital age-heavily rely on digital technology and, hence, have the potential to change quickly. Consequently, their business processes need to change at the same speed. While the literature on BPM proposes different types of business process change and acknowledges that digital technology can enable such developments, it remains to be explored which specific characteristics of digital technology facilitate business process change. The study investigates this by drawing on a multiple case study with seven digital ventures. It finds four patterns of business process changes in digital ventures, illustrating digital technology's impact on business processes. Item type:Publication, Design Principles for mHealth Application Development in Rural Parts of Developing Countries: The Case of Non-Communicable Diseases in Kenya(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers IEEE, 2021) ;Klinker, Kai ;Przybilla, Leonard ;Viljoen, Altus; Krcmar, HelmutIn this study, we first derive design principles for mHealth application development for rural parts of developing countries based on scientific literature and field studies. The design principles are then instantiated in a design science project focused on treating non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in rural parts of Kenya. Designing and implementing mobile health (mHealth) applications is a difficult task, and even more so when done in application domains such as rural parts of developing countries or low-resource communities. The resulting mHealth application assists community health workers (CHWs) in the recording of diabetic and hypertensive patients’ vitals measurements. Additionally, in-person disease support communities for the patients and CHWs were formed, enhanced by an SMS-based community messaging feature to assist in increasing health-seeking behavior. Item type:Publication, How affordances of chatbots cross the chasm between social and traditional enterprise systems(Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2019-08-08); ; ; Digital and agile companies widely use chatbots in the form of integrations into enterprise messengers such as Slack and Microsoft Teams. However, there is a lack of empirical evidence about their action possibilities (i.e., affordances), for example, to link social interactions with third-party systems and processes. Therefore, we adopt a three-stage process. Grounded in a preliminary study and a qualitative study with 29 interviews from 17 organizations, we inductively derive rich contextual insights of 14 affordances and constraints, which serve as input for a Q-Methodology study that highlights five perceptional differences. We find that actualizing these affordances leads to higher-level affordances of chatbots that augment social information systems with affordances of traditional enterprise systems. Item type:Publication, Towards a Method Compendium for the Development of Digitized Products - Findings from a Case Study(Inderscience Enterprises, 2018-01); ; ; ; The pervasive infiltration of digital technology into physical products brings both tremendous challenges and opportunities to original equipment manufacturers. With the goal to support the initial stages of the product lifecycle, this article introduces a method compendium for the development of digitized products. More precisely, the compendium suggests (1) customer- and user-centric innovation methods, (2) agile and prototyping methods, (3) system and architecture modelling methods, (4) feedback- and data-driven methods, and (5) service and business modelling methods. Methodically, we draw on secondary data from a longitudinal single-case study scrutinizing the development of digitized trucks at a leading materials handling and intralogistics organization.
