Abstract (De)
Economic Education in the U.S.
The inclusion of economics as a standards area, economics as a required course at school, as well as teacher licensure requirements regarding credit hours and coursework in economics differ from state to state in the U.S. As a starting point, the study illuminates the development of content guides and key economic concepts and standards prepared by economists and economic educaters over the past half century. After that, empirical findings regarding important determinants of economic literacy will be discussed. Furthermore, the study outlines the current state of economic literacy and economics instruction in U.S. schools and universities. Finally, it summarizes two major future challenges for economic education in the U.S.
