Abstract (De)
This study addresses the antecedents of social entrepreneurial intention by confronting N = 78 participants of entrepreneurship courses with experimentally manipulated scenarios. Building on theory of planned behavior and cognitive appraisal theory, we argue that an individual's general social appraisal to become a social entrepreneur is a strong positive predictor of social entrepreneurial intention. Additionally, we hypothesize that an individual's general social appraisal moderates the relationship between two opportunity characteristics and social entrepreneurial intention. Correspondingly, we found that general social appraisal positively influences social entrepreneurial intention. In addition, general social appraisal (a) weakens the positive relationship between an opportunity's perceived probability of success and social entrepreneurial intention and (b) strengthens the relationship between an opportunity's perceived social impact and social entrepreneurial intention. We discuss our findings in terms of interventions to foster social entrepreneurial intentions and concerning existing models of social entrepreneurial intention formation.
