Abstract
This document supplements the study published in December 2023 «How do leisure travel decisions come about? – A study report». The addendum concerns the method used in the study and provides further guidance for research in this field. Objections raised to date are discussed in detail. The discussion highlights weaknesses in previous studies on travel decisions. It also explains in detail why the method used has greater validity and reliability than the approaches used to date in research and practice. In a chapter on methodological criticism, this document points out fundamental errors that are systematically made by 'wishful research'; research that confirms one's own wishes and ideas as well as existing flawed theories. The document concludes with specific recommendations for academia and practice and lists several future studies that could easily dispel common myths in tourism science.
